The Yabba Dabba Doo, an annual fundraising event hosted by co-founder and CEO of The DDC Group Jan Trevalyan.
During the event was recently raised an astonishing £45,000 toward new proton beam therapy to treat children with cancer.
Proton beam therapy is a medical procedure that uses a beam of protons to irradiate diseased tissue. The method’s chief advantage over other types of external beam radiotherapy is that as a charged particle, the dose is deposited over a narrow range and there is minimal exit dose.
The Christie Cancer Hospital based in Manchester, UK, will be the first hospital in the UK to offer the new treatment and will welcome up to 1,600 children a year.
The Yabba Dabba Doo is a unique event that raises awareness and donations for charities while keeping guests highly entertained with its spectacular agenda and setting. The Doo was held at a country house in Lathom, West Lancashire, where guests enjoyed an aerial artist, musical fireworks, bonfire, VW camper van photo booth, ice cream truck, coffee unit, cocktails and a three-course meal served by Dougherty & Allen.
The auction was a highlight of the evening, with items for sale such as an Ed Sheeran(en dash)signed guitar, Ariana Grande(en dash)signed guitar, a pair of Sergio Aguero — signed football boots, and an eleven-and-a-half-feet tall Pangea metal sculpted elephant imported from Namibia, just to name a few.
Trevalyan gave a very moving speech about his friend’s experience with cancer and how this inspired him to help The Christie.
Event organizer, Chantelle Latham of Having A Ball, said: “The atmosphere was incredible. We can’t thank everyone enough for the huge amount of money we have raised, including everyone who donated during our fantastic raffle and those who really dug deep.”
